Which fiber sfp modules compatible with this fiber cable spec?

Hello All,

Hoping some one can clear up some confusion.

I have this fiber installed on a site:

https://crestron.com/en-US/Products/Interconnects,-Interfaces-Infrastructure/Infrastructure/CresFiber-Cables/CRESFIBER8G-NP-SP500

I am trying to find fiber sfp modules that will work with the fiber mentioned above. But I am going round in circles as this is my first time coming up against fiber.

I am working with a two switches. Cisco 8 port 3560CX and a Cisco C2960X. I have downloaded two spreadsheets from the compatibilty matrix to ensure the sfp modules will work between the two switches but am stuck on exactly which modules will work with the fiber cable in the link above. I guess I am getting confused between single mode and multimode and duplex strand and single strand.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Dan

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Well that's the part I am confused over. The person who installed the fiber said it was multimode with 4 single strands.

I was thinking I neededs to use these sfp modules, GLC-BX-U however the GLC-BX-U seems to be for single mode and single strand.

Then I looked at the GLC-SX-MMD modules but they say they are for duplex fiber and multimode?

So I am completely confused I'm afraid :-) I may have read into it too much at this point!

In regards to distance we are only going 150m.

Dan

Hi
I use these GLC-SX-MMD all the time in those switches with the fibre i posted , dont use single mode unless its a distance thing its very expensive and for liek 1KM 10KM etc . MMF is like 300metres etc much shorter

1GB use GLC-SX-MMD
10gb use SFP-10GB-SR

use MMF LC-LC OM3/4 Fibre with these SFPs youll be good to go

Hi,

That's amazing! Thank you so much for clearing that up.

So I was almost right in thinking GLC-SX-MMD for 1GB!

Many thanks for your help, most appreciated :-)

Sometimes just need to hear someone else explain it then it all falls into place.

Regards

Dan

Yes exactly that will work fine for 1gb mmf , any issues just post back to the thread
