Hi,
I've just inserted a "GLC-SX-MM=" SFP into our 7206VXR/NPE-G2 router however the router doesn't recognise it. Does this SFP work with this router? If not which SFP should I get for a mumlitmode fibre connection (LC termination)?
Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,
The following SFP modules are supported: SFP-GE-S, SFP-GE-L, and SFP-GE-Z. Unapproved SFP modules will not be enabled. Copper SFP modules are not supported, because RJ-45 connectors are built into the Cisco NPE-G2.
Check out the below link for more information

Hi Giuseppe,
You're a star . I think that has worked although I can't be sure as I don't have the fibres cables at hand yet, is there another way to check if it's worked. If I run the following I get:
sh controllers gigabitEthernet 0/2
Interface GigabitEthernet0/2 (idb 0x43A0080)
Hardware is MV64460 Internal MAC (Revision MV64460-Ethernet)
Network connection mode is AUTO
network link is down (NO CARRIER)
Config is Auto Speed, Auto Duplex
Selected media-type is SFP
GBIC type is SFP
Before I ran the command media-typesfp I was getting the following:
sh controllers gigabitEthernet 0/2
Interface GigabitEthernet0/2 (idb 0x43A0080)
Hardware is MV64460 Internal MAC (Revision MV64460-Ethernet)
network link is down (NO CARRIER)
Config is Auto Speed, Auto Duplex
Selected media-type is RJ45
GBIC type is unknown (type 0x1B)
What does the above tell me?
Thanks
Dan

Hello Dan,
I simply had the same problem before you on C7200 with NPE-G1 and the same applies to NPE-G2.
the sh controller says that now the router looks for a SFP not for an RJ-45
Hope to help

Thanks for that.
Although I'm still uncertain as to how do I know that my SFP has been recognised by the router, is there a way to find out otherwise I'll have to order one quickly.
Thanks
Dan

Hello Dan,
the line GBIC type is SFP should be good news
if you have a MM fiber you can check it with:
int gi0/x
no keepalive
no neg auto
making a loop (connect tx to rx) with the MM fiber and checking if the interface goes up.
you may need to play with the above commands to make the interface to stay up/up
Edit:
this is from an NPE-G1 on an active GE port
RT-PA-CT-E-4>sh controller gi0/2
Interface GigabitEthernet0/2 (idb 0x622C73B0)
Hardware is BCM1250 Internal MAC (Revision A8/A10)
Network connection mode is AUTO
network link is up
Config is 1000Mbps, Full Duplex
Selected media-type is GBIC
GBIC type is 1000BaseSX
Hope to help
Giuseppe
