have a general question regarding who is more powerful 12406 with PRP2 (Runinng regural IOS not XR) and 7606 with SUP720-3BXL to run full internet routing (more than 1000,000 prefix)
I have a question,
I can see in the 7600 router data sheet that:
the 7606 forwarding rate of up to 240-Mpps distributed and 480-Gbps total throughput .
Scalability Information for Cisco 7600 RSP 720 ,RSP 720-3C, RSP 720-3CXL ,with IPv4 routing In hardware Up to 400 Mpps*
With 40 Gbps capacity per slot
But for 12406 ,THE Aggregation capacity is 120G and 10G per slot
i want to know why the 7600 showing more powerful than GSR 12406 in the data sheet,..
and i want to know who is more powerful (12406 with PRP2 )or (7606 with sub720-3BXL) to handle full internet routing tables with more than 1000,000 prefixes with high performance and less cpu utilization?.

Hello Ahmed,
as far as I see on our border routers a current BGP full table is in the order of 270,000 routes.
I understand you are looking for a device that can receive multiple BGP full tables from different upstream ISPs.
PRP2 can have up to 4GB RAM so it should be more scalable on the signalling plane then Sup720 3BXL.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps167/product_data_sheet0900aecd800f414a.html
WS-SUP720-3BXL supports 1GB DRAM for route the processor and 1GB DRAM for the switch processor
Someone has reported to receive 5 full BGP tables on Sup 3CXL, Sup 720 3BXL should be fine up to 3 full tables.
We actually have both types of platforms used at border.
About forwarding capacity: a GSR has a totally distributed CEF switching implementation.
A C7600 chassis can host different generations of linecards with different capabilities:
newer linecards have two 20 Gbps connections to sup720 switching fabric.
but older linecards can connect only to bus at 8Gbps and relay on centralized forwarding.
To be noted also flexwan linecards that can be used to host WAN Port Adapters (this can apply to a border router) can be only with connection to shared bus.
So real performances of a C7600 are dependent on what is installed on it.
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Thanks Giuseppe,
that is true i will receive the full internet routing table from many ISP more than 4 , currently i have a problem with 7606 with SUB-7203BXL which is high CPU Utiliation up to 35 to 40 %,
i am looking to solution to reduce it bellow 5 % .if i upgrade the 7606 to 12406 with PRP2 and 2G Memory and SIP-601 Can solve for me the CPU high utilization issue and give me better performance, please advise
