wich IOS for update switch 9200L

Recently I bought many switches 9200L-24T-4G with IOS version 17.06.04 already installed;in the community I found as raccomanded those versions: 17.6.5 (but there's also 17.6.6a) and 17.9.4, so I'm going to update them.

Question is: "Is it possible to update from IOS version 17.06.04 to 17.09.04a my switches? or 17.06.xx wants same prefix "17.06" --> for example can update ONLY to 17.06.05-06-06a"

If prefix "06" is not a must, so v. 17.12.xx or 17.13.xx could be useable instead? Sorry, but I can't find a guide line about hardware features and relatives IOS version compatible.

I've found a useful clarification on this post by brian.koomen:

At the end, best solution is the suggested one by Cisco indicated with (MD)!

[(ED) versions could be considered as 'beta' (?)]

As per TAC go with 17.9.4a is suggested, if you looking to upgrade any higher version, make sure you read the release notes and undertand caveats.

I tried... but 17.9.6 fails, even if verify /md5 test passed; so I
concluded that hw borned with v. 17.6.xx, runs on 17.6.yy....
Am I in error?

You need to post complete failed log here for us to understand the issue.

as we did many upgrades never seen any failures.

Follow below guide : (also make sure you upgrading using bundle or install mode - we suggest always install mode)
