we have a cisco 4507RE switch with 1x SUP6LE , 1x X2-6port & 1X 48gig port modules along with fun module & 2 power supplies.
Last weekend, the switch simply crashed anwhen we looked at it , the fan module led was oraneg / green alternating and the p/s led was red (both of them.)
restarting the switch caused the the switch to function mornally for acouple of hours but it crashed again.
after the restart we chaned the show environment but couldnt find any abnormality. although we did notice a change in the fan noise as it was going up and down abnormally.
now we have 99% doubts on the fan module, but there is no hard evidence. i will be insalling syslog server tomorrow but i was wondering if i can have any tips on this kind of trouble shooting. will sys log server do good for me or do i need to try anything else.
we we have now done is that swapped the fan module with another redundant 4507RE switch , its now been more then 24 hours and surprisingly both of them are still functioning, i was expecting the second switch to fail with the assumed faulty fan module installed here..
would appreciate some help here.. thanks..
