I am looking to buy 2x 48port Gig switches. Previously we had bought WS-C3750G-48TS-S, however, I also believe that WS-C3750X-48T-S is also a comparable option. I am a little confused on the difference.
I see the C3750X is cheaper than the C3750G. I see that the without the expansion module, you are missing the 4x 1Gb SFP's - but even if you include the price of this module, it still works out cheaper - and the added benefit of the X is being able to add 10G SFP's with a different module.
I see the C3750X has different PSU / stackable power - but I dont see this a a disadvantage.
I see both these particular models run the same IOS functionality (IPBase).
Therefore, I dont understand why you would buy the WS-C3750G-48TS-S over the WS-C3750X-48T-S - on the surface it looks to be the cheaper option (even with additional x4 SFP module) and gives you the option for 10G with only an upgrade of the network module, rather than replacing the switch. Is the X inferior in some way? Is the X replacing the G range? I can't see any notable difference/disadvantage in the data sheets - can anyone advise?

Is the X inferior in some way?
Competition. Not just from other vendors but other Cisco Catalyst switches as well. If I was given the choice of the plain, G, E or X I will always get the "X".
You forgot one thing. The "G" has a backplane speed of 16 Gb full duplex while the "X" can support up to 32 Gb full duplex.

The 3750E is much better than the 3750G and the 3750X is slightly better than the 3750E.
As to why the 3750X is less expensive, it's newer. (Like many other computer system components, newer often provides more capability for same or lower cost.)
As to why 3750G series still available, guess as long a customers are willing to buy them . . .
