Best practices for using MSE8350 along with VCS Expressway

Thanks ahead of time for the advise and suggestions!

Given that the VCS Expressway is the only entrypoint from the outside world into our video conferencing network, what is the best way to deploy and use an MSE8350 IP GW?

Do organizations put it outside their firewall next to an expressway to allow older endpoints to direct dial into the IP GW's menu system? We have one that is doing nothing and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. (was bought before I got there).

thanks!

It always depends on what the needs are. It can be deployed on the inside, outside, both in combination with the

vcs or even stand alone.

I have often seen it deployed on the inside so it can talk to the TMS to receive phonebooks.

That deployment also gives you the capability to reach endpoints on ips in the internal network.

The VCS-E (and C) have an option for a fall back alias, you can simply define the address of the

IPGW. In that scenario a call to the ip of the vcs-e will hit the ipgw on the inside.

This also limits all external ip connectivity to the VCS-E(s).

For me its sad to see that the IPGW is end of life, I think it would be perfect as an IVR system

and could be nicely combined with for example the conductor.

If you still do not find a way to utilize it, feel free to donate it to me ;-)

Ahh...I like the fallback alias idea.

How would you configure that?

My main thought is for those situations where for whatever reason an endpoint can only dial IP (and they can't, or don't know how to dial a URI).

Thanks!

Fallback alias is under:  VCS configuration > Dial Plan > Configuration
