CMR H323 IP dial string

Hi, unfortunately the VC system one of our clients uses cannot dial URIs. Is it possible to use IP addressing instead to join a CMR cloud call?

You need to use the full URI address to connect to a CMR Cloud meeting, calling an IP isn't possible.

What endpoint are they trying to use?

What software version is the Polycom?

Is it not registered to an H323 gatekeeper or SIP registrar, which is why they can't dial using a URI address?

we have another test today, so I will ask for that detail.

i wasn't aware that units need to be registered to dial URIs. Is there any cases where this would not be required because I have another customer with a standalone endpoint and seemed to be able to connect into a CMR conference.

Standalone endpoints could dial URI address without being registered, depends on if they have the capability built in.

We have a single Polycom HDX 6000 ourselves, I just tried to dial into my CMR Cloud meeting without it being registered and it failed to dial the CMR address.  If it were registered using either H323 or SIP, it works without issue.

UPDATE:  I just tested, and could dial my CMR Cloud address using H323 without registering it to a gatekeeper.  I enabled H323 on the Polycom HDX, and set the the "Use Gatekeeper" setting to off.  Our Polycom is running software version 3.1.6-46064.

Jeremy, it's been awhile, and I don't have access to that particular Polycom endpoint anymore to verify, but try:

alias@site.webex.com

Alias is either the meeting number or the host ID of the CMR, and replace "site" with your specific WebEx site name.

As a requirement to be able to dial to CMR cloud or any address that can be reach using URI dialing or they call it H323 Annex O (URI dialing), your endpoint should be configured with working DNS address to be able to resolve the CMR cloud domain and reach the services.

In most cases, the terminal device must not be registered with a gatekeeper. Stand alone H323 endpoints capable of dialing URI string (H323 Annex O) should have no issue.
