I want to upgrade firmware on some old Edge 85 units and a coupe of c-20's and 1 c-40. Does the company I work for have to pay for these firmware upgrades?

A valid service contract IS required before upgrade keys are provided!

Hi
As Kirk mentioned you need a valid service contract to aquire the release keys for major version upgrade. Upgrading from 4.x -> 5.x would require a release key which you need a service contract to get. Minor upgrades from 5.1.x to 5.2.x does not require a new release key. You do not pay per upgrade but you are entitled to as many upgrades you want with a valid Service contract.

Also make sure, you check whether it's possible to upgrade to the latest version of software from the version you are running. sometimes you have to upgrade to an intermediary version before you can upgrade to latest one (check software dependancy on release notes).

Depending on the units and if they are lower than software version F9.1 (MXP) and TC4.0 (C-Series or E/EX), this might be an option to be able to upgrade to latest software release without requiring the need of a service contract.

Also, the Edge 85 is EOS/EOL, and you'll unable to be able to get service contracts for them now. Though with the above security notice mentioned above, you might be able to get newer software - maybe.
