Downgrade DX80 from CE8.3.1 to Android

Hi Folks,

I have a client with around 50 Dx80 endpoints, all running Android.  Recently they have had a couple of failures and the replacements have turned up with CE8.3.1 s/w.   The client does not have the dev pack for CE DX80, and as they are a bank, they have to test it first in a QA setup and when the security team is happy it can be deployed onto the prod CUCM cluster.

I have attempted to downgrade an endpoint following the method in the Conversion document D15364.08 on page 16 of the May 2017 version.  Downgraded to CE8.2.0 without any issues.  Uploaded the dx80.ce8.2.0-syn213B.rel.pkg and it appeared to extract OK and then proceeded to do a reboot.  After approximately 20 minutes of the Cisco splash screen I powered the unit down and then restarted it.  It came up still running CE8.2.0.

Any suggestions as to what I am missing?  I am reluctant to redo the Android upload procedure again as I may end up with unusable s/w on both image partitions.

Cheers, Paul R.

Try installing CE8.2.1 or CE8.2.2 on the DX80 before installing the CE to Android conversion software (dx80.ce8.2.0-syn213B.rel.pkg).  As the guide specifically calls out CE8.2.x, so it could be that you must run a dot release of CE8.2 and simply not just CE8.2.0.  Also, looking at the downloads, that conversion software was released with CE8.2.1, not CE8.2.0.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the quick response.  I will upgrade to CE 8.2.1 and then try the Android package again.  As I said in my original post, getting the device package on to the clients CUCM is not an overnight process because of their security requirements.  They are going to have to do it sometime, as they have just bought some Spark Room 55 units.

Hi Patrick,

Your solution is correct.  I tried CE8.2.1 and the conversion failed.  The DX80 came back up on CE s/w.  Tried with CE8.2.2 and it works.

I have done 2 endpoints and it worked flawlessly.

Hi Paul ! I have the synergy file but I don't have the 8.2.2 version file.
Can you pass it to me please ?
Thank you very much !

Hi Paul,

I recently purchased a CP-DX80 through our local government surplus auction vendor for use with our local charity. I want to follow your lead in downgrading the software to v8.2.2 then installing android os so that I can run Google apps. Unfortunately, I am not able to source the needed software since I am not a Cisco partner or customer. Do you have the ability to either share the needed files or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.
