Hi,
I've got the following question:
The setup:
A sip trunk is created between the lync server and the call manager.
Can a lync 2013 client make a video call towards a TX9000?
What is the highest quality that can be achieved?

Lync 2013 is not supported by now, expeically the video codecs of the 2013 client will be an issue.
What I would recomend:
* simply use a jabber(video) client ;-) That will deliver the best quality and would also support proper content sharing.
We did a test with 2013 clints using a 2010 integration towards the telepresence server via the VCS+AMGW,
That might also work in your setup. This should deliver 720p both ways.
But I would check with your Cisco Partner / Contact so see whats possible

Martin,
Thank you for your answer. But i know it will work with a VCS + AMGW.
But in my setup, there is no vcs or AMGW.
So i need to look for the answer if i can call from a lync client to a TX9000 with only a sip trunk between the 2 environments.
I know it will work with jabber(video) clients. But that is not available.

I dont think you are going to get any love to get Lync hooked up. You can get your scenario to work if you use the Jabber for Windows client (CUPS server needed) and create a CSF device in CM to use the Jabber client as a softphone. This is what I did recently to get SX20s and Jabber for Windows clients connected via video call.

Lync 2013 is currently not officially supported.
By today and without the AMGW+VCS+TPS it will not be possible.
I do not know your deployment, but for interop / b2b the VCS is anyhow something you
want to investigate anyhow :-)
If you have some telephony integration you might be able to get audio up, but thats it.
Check with your Cisco Partner / Contact what they might be able to tell you regards the future.

Guys,
I've got some more information from Cisco.
They are working to get SVC supported on the VCS. So when that's available, lync 2013 will be supported.
That will be the only way to get interop between the 2 environments.
@Martin: You were right about the VCS + TPS integration. But it's waiting for version X8.x.

Hello,
Cisco has released TC 6.2 to support H.264 SVC in its endpoints.
Please visit for more information: http://blogs.cisco.com/tag/h-264/ a great article about this from Finn Helge Lunde | June 21, 2013:
... "Also, as part of Cisco’s strong architectural approach on interoperability we are adding support for H.264 SVC to our TC based endpoints. This means we can do native interoperability with other vendor’s solutions like Microsoft Lync 2013 and Polycom endpoints using the H.264 SVC standard."...

No, thats the point ! Neither VCS X8 nor TC6.2 are released yet.
This is why I prefer (besides signed NDAs :-) to talk about whats going
on in the future, especially as things tend to change in the process till it is
released.
What I always recommend, what I also did in this thread is to reach out to
your Cisco Partner or Cisco directly what coming up!
