Hello,
I need to spec a solution for a 15 participant video conference. The meeting is between the clients Main site (1 standalone codec c40) and 14 others at remote sites. Since the other sites have no infrastructure my plan was mainly using the MCU Conferenceme feature to invite all the other participants.
I was also planning for the c40 to register with the MCU's builtin H323 gatekeeper. Would that be ok?
1. Based on the datasheets it seems that Conferenceme is limited to 12 max. Is that correct? 15 party conference would not be achieved there. Any suggestions here
2. I could get some Movi clients involved. I would now have to add a VCS starter to the original C40+MCU 4501
Also for the 4501 with the 6 To 12 HD Port Option (12 to 24 SD Ports). Is it that as soon as the conference gets bigger than 12 it will be downrated from HD to SD for all participants?
Lastly what bandwidth up/down would you recommend for such a conference say 15 party at SD quality?
Apologies for the bundle.

HI Ricardo,
Since you need 15 participants I would suggest ither to buy the 6 to 12 HD feature, to double the capacity or
to go for a physical upgrade to a MCU 4510 ( with capacity 20 dedicated ports for video / 20 audio / 20 content)
The SD / HD mode it's a global setting , you can configure the unit to use either only SD ports or only HD ports , you can not mix them ( for ex you can not use 3 HD and 6 SD ports, you can either use 6 HD or 12 SD ( or double the capacity with the upgrade key)
The built in gatekeeper of the MCU can handle up to maximum 25 endpoints registered , however this has very basic functionality, so I would strongly recommend to use a VCS as dedicated GK and to register the MCU and the Endpoints to the VCS
Regarding the bandwidth I would go for at least 768 kbps ( you can use 512 as well however the higher the bw , the better the quality )
I hope this helps

Hi Cristian,
You are correct about not being able to mix the HD or SD modes. I will take your advice to use a VCS as GK.
Thanks.
