Microphone phone extension cable

Are microphone extension cable same for all codecs or do they have to match to each specific codecs?

It is dependent on the codec and microphone, as each microphone uses a different connector and can connect to only one particular set of codecs that support that connector, take a look a the TelePresence Microphones Data Sheet.
