Question about Pipe and Subzone total bandwith available

Hi,

I know that Pipe is restriction bandwith under a link ,e.g if a have a pipe = 768kb from subzone1 to default subzone.

and i have subzone 2 pipe =512kb and i have totalbandwidth available under subzone2 =384kb, and make a first call of 384kb , and i want to make a second call ? is possible or not? What bandwidth is take under consideration?

I need clarify this concept,

Hi,

In this case, both limitation will be considered, but the less value will cause the effect indeed. Lets take your example:

SubZone2 (Total bandwidth: 384)

||

||

|| Pipe Sub2 to DefaulSZ (Total bandwidth: 512)

||

||

DefaultSubZone


When you make a call at 384 Kbps from SubZone2 to DefaultSZ, VCS will deduce 384 from the bandwidth in SubZone2 and 384 from the bandwidth in the pipe. So you will have only 128 available in the pipe and 0 available in the SubZone2. Therefore, when you make the second call from the subzone2, VCS will deny the call and it will not even consider the banwidth available in the pipe, because the call didn't even reach the pipe, once it didn't even get out Default Subzone.

I have another question, regarding the same issue..

Example if a call from Subzone1 to Zubzon2 , and i dont have i direct pipe from subzone1 to subzone2 ,only a pipe to default subzone what is the mechanism?

I tried to find documentation but i only find for configuration not design rules.

Hi Carlos,

In this case, the question is, is there a link between sub1 and sub 2? If there is a link, VCS will consider the bandwidth applied to the sub zones and the bandwidth applied to the pipe in this link. If you have a direct link between subzones, but you dont have a pipe applied, only the bandwidth applied in each subzone will be considered.

If you dont have a direct link betwenn sub1 and sub2, then the call route path will be:

Sub1 <------(Link/pipe)--------> DefaulSZ <--------(Link/pipe)-------> Sub2

Therefore, in this case, the pipe considered will be that applied to the link that connects each subzone to default subzone.

Hi all,

I have a question on pipes and the bandwidth definitions for a subzone. To me it looks like I am configuring the same values twice. What is the use of creating pipes when you already have configured the bandwidth for each subzone?

Does somebody have a good example?
