We have Cisco VCS and MCU 8050 and we have some questions!!!!

Question 1.

How i can configure my VCS that EX90 terminals sending RTP flow through it (VCS)?

P.S. We are using ONLY SIP protocol.

Question 2.

We have 2 MCU blades and how to configure my MCU that it balancing traffic (conference flow) through 4 it ethernet ports.

Hi Andre!

I do not really understand what your angle is.

You could define a neigbor zone and set enable media latching towards the MCU.

You did not mention what your VCS type is, if you need to traverse firewalls you might need

a VCS-E. There are also some mechanisms in operation which define if a vcs will force

the media to stick to it. Search a a bit, you will find it on the Cisco site as well as here in the Forum.

Regards the MCU there is no way to balance traffic in between the different ethernet ports of a blade.

In addition the traffic flow might be different if the blades are clustered or not.

Regards questions in general, you should always post a bit more what you want to archive, how

your setup looks like, which hardware and software versions are used, ...

Hi Andre,

Let me give my views on your query regarding the RTP flow through the VCS. The RTP will only flow through the VCS in case of the following calls:

  • Calls traversing a firewall
  • Calls utilizing the Dual Network ports on the VCS, i.e going from one port to another
  • SIP & H.323 interworked calls
  • IPv4 to IPv6 translation calls

Apart from these the media will not flow through the VCS and will route directly between the endpoints.

Mubashshir: there are some other cases as well:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/telepresence/infrastructure/articles/vcs_traversal_call_license_usage_kb_168.shtml

(and for example sip media latching or vcse+assent is not even mentioned there)

An easy way todo media latching is the media encryprion policy of the MCU zone to best effort. With that setting the B2BUA will be used to connect the MCU and the RTP Stream will flow through the VCS.

Regards, Paul

Martin,

Thanks for adding those. Yep you're right, I missed to mention those two factors.

thx for all your comments !!!

Paul: Yes, its also an option, but you have to be sure that you wan that option to be active

(though in most cases it should not be an issue).

Biggest limitation is that the encryption policy is available only from X7.2, so maybe not usable for all.

Andre: Could you please rate the answers using the stars below each message

and set the thread to ansered if it is.

It also might be interesting to know why you ask about binding the media an

load balancing on the mcu ethernet ports
