followed several people's posts about how they've successfully registered an E20 to Call Manager.
So far no luck. I’m getting a Reason: 485 Ambiguous – device type not recognized.
I’ve also tried to reset to factory default with the ** (presentation key) ## sequence, the device reboots, but all previous saved settings are still present – so device is not going back to factory default (would like to try the initial setup wizard, but saved settings won’t blow away)
anyone have the definitive word on how to register a device?

Hi Paul,
It's always helpful to know what versions the systems are running in order to provide suggestions. What is the exact version of software the E20 and CUCM (8.6.1......) are running?
I was able to successfully factory reset my lab E20 running TE4.0.0 with the * * (press the presentation key) # # sequence so I am not sure why yours is just rebooting. Try the command: xcommand SystemUnit Configuration ResetToFactoryDefaults Settings: All and verify that it resets to factory defaults.
Also, ensure you have have everything configured per the admin guide:
and release notes:
Try again with the factory reset and verifying the CUCM config and versions and see if that corrects the issue.
Thanks!

Are you trying to register the E20 as an end point ?
If that is the case then E20 and the CUCM need to be in the same Voice VLAN
Kindly me know if you are trying to register E20 as a sip end point and I shall sent you the steps which I followed for the same

Anyone know if you can register the E20 to CUCM for line1 and for line2 register to another SIP server?

Hi Tommer
My E20 has two lines. Line 1 from CUCM and Line 2 from VCS. Its work properly.

Thank you very much Oleksandr! When you program line2, is there an option to use any SIP server or just VCS? Im assuming its simply a sip entry. I have a customer I believe has a polycom server. (trying to ween them to VCS)

E20 has 3 lines.I test two lines for VCS and last for CUCM.
You may download Cisco IP Video Phone E20 TE Software Release Notes (TE4.0)
This document is has table with Interoperability Testing SIP Registrar/Proxies for E20. Also this document is has open caveats with description E20 with another systems

Hi Oleksandr,
Please let me understand one point here.
How come one device can load firmware from 2 different Call Control Device (VCS & CUCM both for Operating Line 1 for CUCM and Line 2 for VCS).
If E20 is registered with CUCM, Ideally it should work both the line from CUCM only.
Please correct me if I am mistaken,
Thanks a lot.

It is not a specific software, you have three different profiles like that:
*c xConfiguration SIP Profile 3 URI: ""
*c xConfiguration SIP Profile 3 DisplayName: ""
*c xConfiguration SIP Profile 3 DefaultTransport: Auto
*c xConfiguration SIP Profile 3 TlsVerify: Off
*c xConfiguration SIP Profile 3 Type: Standard

Said that the firmware is not critical, the provisioning of the config might be, depending on what the provisioning
server sets, it might overwrite a manual set config.

Anyway the E20 could register with CUCM 7.1.x? Or is it only 8.5 or 8.6?
Thanks!
11-12-2011 01:53 PM
From CUCM 8.5 - E20 may register as native device.
CUCM 6.1, 7.0.1 - E20 may register as 3rd party device.
E20 have two soft release:
TE 2x use for register as 3rd party device
TE 4x use for register as native.

Hi All
To register the E20 with CUCM 8.6, is the DNS server necessary? I can register the E20 with CUCM but frequently the E20 gets unregistered & shows that it is trying to provisioned with VCS. Can anybody give me any advice to resolve this issue?
Thanks
