TURN (ICE) delivers ‘cheapest’ routing of audio/video (minimises firewall traversal and minimises use of centralised resources).

This feature “allows the SIP clients to discover enough information about their topologies to potentially find one or more paths by which they can communicate” meaning SIP UA may communicate directly for media payload instead of routing it via VCS Expressway.

If Jabber is behind firewall, media go through VCS Expressway which may cause extra delay.

Enable the ICE feature on VCS-E and enable this on Jabber, Jabber client negotiate ICE during call setup and if ICE candidate negotiation success, then RTP and RTCP flow directly between Jabber and other SIP UA.

ICE  supported by:

  • Cisco VCS Expressway and VCS Expressway Starter Pack
  • Jabber/Movi 4.1 and greater
  • MXP F8.2 and greater
  • MXP L6.0 and greater

VCS administrator guide can help provide some detailed information on TURN, as it is the VCS server that provides the service.

Jabber Video administrator guide can provide detailed information on how TURN relates to it.
