I work for a company call Bruce Power. We have several videoconference units internal to our LAN:
- Polycom VSX 7000 and 8000 systems
- Tandberg C60's
- MOVI clients
We are members of an organization called COG who have a Tandberg VCS Expressway system in their DMZ that allows members to register their videoconference systems so as to place and receive SIP calls. We put in place firewall rules to allow specific access to the COG VCS for SIP videoconference protocols.
Needless to say, the MOVI clients and the Tandberg C60 units easily register with the VCS and can readily receive and place video calls.
PROBLEM: I have SIP accounts set up for the Polycom VSX systems. I can get the Polycom systems to the point where they believe that they are registered with the SIP server (green up arrow on SIP registration. The Polycom units can then place SIP calls. Unfortunately, the Polycom units cannot be made to receive SIP calls. My MOVI client shows that the Tandberg points have registered; it does not see the Polycom units as registered. I can call external endpoints at other companies and I can call my MOVI client successfully with the Polycom VSX systems. I just can seem to get the Polycom units to receive incoming SIP calls and properly register with the COG VCS. Of course, not having visibility on and control of the VCS does make trouble-shooting that much more difficult.
Any ideas????
Thanks,
Scott

Hi,
if you cannot register on VCS then you cannot expect SIP/GK server to forward the call to that endpoint.
why don't you have visibility to VCS logs, as you mentioned?
and what is the deployment scenario?
movi > VCSc > VCSe > internet > Polycom endpoint?

As I said, the Polycom VSX devices think that they are registered — unless you put a proper name, password and SIP server they will not be able to make SIP calls AND they indicate that they are registered (at least in their own 'minds'). It seems to me from my MOVI client that the VCS does not show them registered.
I explained that I do not have visibility on the VCS because I work for Bruce Power and the VCS belongs to COG (Candu Owners Group). It is not Bruce Power's VCS. I can request logs from the IT people at COG but it might take some time.
The key question here is:
Why do my Cisco MOVI and Cisco C60 easily reigster with the VCS and my Polycom systems think they are registering but they only seem to manage half the job (i.e. able to dial out but not receive)?
Thanks,
Scott
