Video device attached to Cisco DX80

Is there a way you can connect a video device to a Cisco DX80 using USB?  When I attempt to connect a video device to the USB port I receive a message "the USB Accessory Device has been disabled by the administrator" and I cannot find a way to unlock it.  Thank you

I don't know if a video device will work when plugged into a DX endpoint, but to enable the USB, look at the CUCM phone configuration for the DX80 and make sure that "Disable USB" is not checked.  Take a look at Table 3 of the DX Admin Guide under "Features and Services".

The USB port might be disabled on device configuration parameters on the CUCM Administration and that's the only way to enable it. Check it with your CUCM admin.

If you mean "video device" are you trying to connect a external camera on the USB port of the device?

Yes. I am attempting to connect an external camera to the USB port however I have been told that the DX80 may not be able to recognize the camera but others have told me it will.  Regarding the USB begin disabled, the DX80 has three USB ports, one I have attached a mouse, one a keyboard and the third the camera.  The Mouse and Keyboard function correctly so I assume all three USB ports are enabled.

So you tried connecting it to the other known working USB port?

What is the current firmware version of your DX80? What brand and model of external USB camera you are trying to connect?

There is a note on the Release Note 10.2(4) under "Limitations and Restrictions":

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/dx/series/rel-notes/1024sr/DX00_BK_R548EF3A_00_release-notes-dx-series-1024sr.html

  • The only supported external cameras for Cisco DX650 are the Logitech C920-C Webcam and Logitech C930e.

But the release note only specified the Cisco DX650. Not sure if this applies for all DX series endpoints.

I tried to connect a Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 to all three USB devices with the same result.  (keep in mind a USB keyboard and mouse work correctly in all three USB ports).  When connected I receive a prompt "This USB accessory device class has been disabled by the administrator"

This USB accessory device class has been disabled by the administrator

That error message is more than what you originally posted, be that it was just missing the word "class" in the phrase, but in either case it sounds now that Cisco might have put a block on the USB ports to restrict what can be plugged in and used.

EDIT: I might be wrong that Cisco disabled certain USB device, I noticed the below in the DX650 guide when refering to enabling USB handsets.

You must enable the applicable USB port (either the back USB port parameter or the side USB port parameter) in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration (in the Product Specific Configuration layout portion of the window). Also, for the Enable/Disable USB Classes parameter in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, ensure that Audio Class is selected.

These parameters can be enabled in either the Phone Configuration window (Device > Phone), the Enterprise Phone Configuration window (System > Enterprise Phone Configuration), or the Common Phone Profile window (Device > Device Settings > Common Phone Profile). Also check the corresponding Override Common Settings parameter in the configuration window.

I have the opposite issue - can I make the DX80 camera act as a webcam on my laptop please?

I assume that the USB cable would be used.

Reason some laptops don't have a webcam and others are closed and in their docking station.

Thanks

Tym

No, the camera is only used by the endpoint, computers connected to the USB port can't use it.
