Take a look at Table 1 of the VCS data sheet I linked to in my earlier post.  The VCS is made up of two components, a Control and Expressway.  Together they offer firewall traversal and a secure method of video calling in and out of an organizations network.  Endpoints can register to the VCS and easily be able to call others with ease, as well as providing H323-SIP interworking so you won't have to worry about endpoints that are registered to it using the same call protocol.  Suggest you take a look at the data sheet, as well as some of the deployment or user guides as well.

TS is a Bridge or MCU while VCS is a Call Control/Session Management device.

Two very different device for very different purposes.

MCU when you need to connect more than two endpoints in a call or Bridge potentially incompatible endpoints

VCS needed when complex dial plans, security, bandwidth, call control, and etc.. are needed..

As Lawrence says, a TelePresence Server (TPS or vTS) and Video Communication Server (VCS) are two entirely different products.

Suggest you take a look at the data sheet to get an idea of what each product is:

TelePresence Server

Video Communication Server

As the others have said, they both have different purposes.

Another document of interest to you may be the TelePresence Server Deployment Guide which shows how you would deploy your TelePresence Server with a VCS, or with a CUCM.

Sounds fine, but when do I need to use the VCS?

Thanks Patrick, appreciated dear
