I'd suggest to take a look at the Cisco VCS Admin Guide, the sections on "Zones and Neighbors" starting on p121.  Specifics of a neighbor zone can be found starting on the bottom of p131.

When a VCS has a neighbor zone configured it can:

  • query the neighbor zone about it's endpoints
  • apply transforms to any requests before they are sent to the neighbor
  • control the bandwidth used for calls between your local VCS and the neighbor zone

Hi Krishna,

As Patrick mentioned check the vcs admin guide.

basically using the neighbour zone on vcs you can connect to third party sip proxy or H.323 gatekeeper.  neighbour zone provides you to select the protocol which you want to use.

for e.g. like zone to cucm, you want to allow only sip protocol and h.323 you can turn off on the zone. This also requires that you should configure a search rule to send the calls through this zone.

VCS has some built in types of neihbour zone like cucm, traversal, nortel cs1000 (now avaya) etc. For the other zones you can create a custom zone and which allows you to control some advance parameters through the zone.

I hope this clarifies
