Random Video Quality Issues - SX Devices & Meraki Mx100

Hi,

Hoping someone can make any sense of this.

We are having strange issues with our Video Conferencing equipment since we have switched out our ASA Firewalls for a Meraki MX100 device.

When we are attempting to make video calls most calls will connect fine at around 2.5mb however every now and then the call will connect at 64kbps and the only way to resolve this is to end the call and re-connect the call.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour before when using a Cisco Meraki device?

I have noticed the below in the logs but cannot seem to find anything about it online;

2018-04-18T08:57:41.548+01:00 a8 appl[2264]: Mari I: MariController:: startRate: 64000, maxRate:64000 (callRate:64000, remote:5870000) [slowstart:yes rate:0]

Any idea what this MariController is or does?

Thanks.

Not sure what would be cause the call the call to use 64kbps when you're trying to connect at 2.5mb, but MARI is Media Adaptation and Resilience Implementation, it helps prevent packet loss.

Hi Patrick,

Would you be kind enough to elaborate on how MARI works? We're struggling with diagnosing this issues due to it's intermittent nature.

We are currently using Videxio as a cloud solutions and have the endpoints registered to this. Every now and then we make a call the call starts blurred and we see the video rate at >64K however no significant reports of packet loss or jitter?

Please see the full logs of a this conditions attached.

Many thanks.

I don't know the specifics about how it works, but here is a video demonstrating it: Cisco Media Assure - Video Packet Loss Correction.

If you think MARI might be the cause of your issue, you could try disabling it, MARI is hidden in the Experimental options, so you'll need to type it into the search box to get it to appear on the configuration page of the web interface.
