Assign a phone number to an extension

I'm looking to assign a real phone number to an extension. There is a phone number currently assigned to an extension and I'd like to reassign that number to go to another extension.

Are you using CUCM? You can do this a couple of different ways. A common method is to use a translation pattern (Call Routing > Translation Pattern). You should be able to look for and modify the existing pattern. You'll need to modify the Called Party Transform Mask to match the new extension.

Hello Brandon,

Thank you for responding. I am using CUCM. This would just reroute a call coming into one extension to another? Like (111)222-3333  --> Ext 100 -- Ext 200?

Is there a way to configure the phone line to the 2nd extension only and not have it attached to the first extension?

Yes, that is correct.

I edited the last post not knowing you'd respond so quickly.

Is there a way to configure the phone line to the 2nd extension only and not have it attached to the first extension?

Yes, if you have:

Translation pattern for (111)222-3333 > 100

and

Translation pattern for (111)222-4444 > 200

and your phone has first extension 100, second extension 200 you can change the first translation pattern to point to extension 300 without affecting the second translation pattern.

Not sure if that answers your question?

I don't see Something like that in (call routing>translation pattern). Only a call attendant translation and one other translation are there. Is there another place a phone number could be assigned to an extension?

It's 1 phone per extension . I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Do the DIDs match the extensions, for example 111-222-3333 goes to extension 3333? In that case, it could be that the telco is only sending you 4 digits which would not need to be translated. Could also be done on the gateway if using H.323.

No, the DID's do not match the extensions.

OK, then the number has to be translated before it hits the extension. Is your gateway H.323? Check the gateway to see if it is using a translation rule before sending to CUCM.
