Call Manager SIP Trunk with TLS to 3rd Party Systems

I've got a question regarding Call Manager SIP Trunks with SIP/TLS with 3rd Party Systems. 

Is there a Cisco guide or document that describes the requirements for the 3rd Party Certificates with CUCM SIP Trunks.  Will the call manager trust the 3rd party Self Signed certificates or does it require a signed certificate from a trusted CA? 

I was trying to connect a Polycom DMA system to the CUCM (@10.5) with the DMA's self signed certificate.  I put the DMA's self signed cert as the CUCM's callmanger-trust.  Also did the callmanger cert over to the DMA.  Looking at traces, TLS was definitely failing.  I got the DMA certificate signed with a CUCM Trusted CA and the trunk came up. 

So I've been trying to do some research on Cisco Docs regarding the 3rd party Cert requirements.  I would appreciate some guidance if someone has ran into the same scenario.
