Cisco CUCM Upgrade/Migration: from 7.1.3 to CUCM 11.x BE6K

Hi there,

I'm going to upgrade a customer's CUCM cluster from CUCM 7.1.3 to CUCM 11.x on Business Edition 6000 (BE6K). In normal situation I can upragde from 7.1.3/7.1.5 to 11.x either through Jump (DRS) or with PCD.

Can I use PCD while migrating from CUCM 7.1.3 (bare metal) to CUCM 11.x on BE6K?

Thanks.

Regards,

Ysana

OK, so that is standalone UCM on MCS 7816-I4 appliances.

For your destination BE6K appliance, if you bought a virtualization software license like R-VMW-UC-FND5-K9 or higher feature level<http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_VMware_Requirements#License_Comparison>, then you can use PCD Migration to get that cluster from 7.1.3 on MCS to 11.x on BE6K.

What are you migrating from? Answer depends on that.

We never ran UCM 7.1.3 on Business Edition 6000 … the min release was 8.5.1.

Are you perhaps migrating from Business Edition 5000 on MCS 7828 (which is running a special combo image of UCM+CUC) ?

Or are you migrating from standalone UCM+CUC apps each on their own baremetal server?

VM-jump only works with standalone UCM (select 6.1 and 7.1 versions) and only goes to 9.1.2. Won’t take you to 11.x. We know partners unofficially try to do VM-jump for unsupported from/to paths, but YMMV and frequently issues pop up later like VM filesystem unalignment.

PCD Migration will not work if you are migrating from Business Edition 5000 (the database structure is different, plus CUC does not support PCD Migration only COBRAS).

If you are migrating from standalone UCM+CUC, then PCD Migration will work for UCM (see supported releases table<http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/pcdadmin/11_0_1/CUCM_BK_PB6D9005_00_pcd-administration-guide-110/CUCM_BK_PB6D9005_00_pcd-administration-guide-110_chapter_011.html#CUCM_RF_S8D16CEC_00>) but only if on the BE6K server the VMware license has sufficient feature level<http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/pcdadmin/11_0_1/CUCM_BK_PB6D9005_00_pcd-administration-guide-110/CUCM_BK_PB6D9005_00_pcd-administration-guide-110_chapter_01.html#CUCM_RF_C1DF129A_00> like R-VMW-UC-FND5-K9.

For CUC, they do not support PCD Migration and you have to use their COBRAS tool.

Hi Jarias,

Our customer have their Cisco CUCM 7.1.3 cluster installed on Cisco MCS7816I4-K9-CMC2 servers. They want to migrate to Cisco CUCM 11.x based on Business Edition 6000.

Thanks.

Hi James,

Thanks for your prompt response.  I'll check the R-VMW-UC-FND5-K9 license.

I appreciate your help.
