internet subscriber without smtp/vpim networking

I am reading through SMTP networking.I have two unified messaging system in a seperate directory. Because one of it is Exchange cluster, we are not able to install voice-connector on it because Microsoft doesn't allow third party software on it. So I am thinking only add internet subsribers, My question is: without smtp or vpim installed, will Unity treat a message to internet subscriber as a voicemail and light the MWI?(Assuming smtp gateway is running between them for mails between each other) For example

Unity A, subscriber 1001,

Unity B, subscriber 2001

Adding 2001 as internet subscriber in UnityA

Adding 1001 as internet subscriber in UnityB

When addressing message to 2001 from Unity A, will unity B receives voicemail and light MWI for 2001 or just receive a wave file in outlook unless SMTP or VPIM networking configured?

Thanks

That's correct - the message will be just an email with attached WAV and the receiving Unity will categorize it as an email, not a voice mail (the extended MAPI properties/type needs to be on the message for Unity to treat it as a voice mail - this is what the gateways provide).

as such your lamp will not be lit in this case...
