We are considering putting in a Unity system at a location with only SRST becasue it has local Exchange. Our current environment is that main site has two Callmanagers, one Unity and currently we have two SRST remote sites which connect back to main for Unity. I saw a post from August 2003 which indicated that this was not possible. has this changed or is it still the case.
CallManager 4.01 and Unity 4.0(4)
Thanks,
Tim

The issue is that Unity can't register to the SRST router like the IP phones can. So if your link between Unity and CCM went down Unity wouldn't be able to take calls.
If this is something that doesn't happen often it might not be a big issue for you as many customers consider voicemail to be less critical than the actual phones.
If it is critical we really don't have a great story. Putting Unity on the same LAN as Exchange is the right choice to make. Perhaps some sort of WAN redundancy might be another option you can explore.
I feel that the feature is needed but customers really haven't pushed the account teams for it so you don't see it in the product offerings. If it is important to you should let them know.
Thanks,
Keith

Has there been any change in Cisco's stance on this issue with Unity not being able to register with SRST? This is really a feature that would be useful for many customers deploying centralized call-processing models with distributed exchange/unity architectures.
thanks.
