Moving Commserver folder in Unity from C to D drive

Hi,

Guyz one of our customer's installation has commserver folder installed on C:. I would like to move that to D:, unfortunately the system has been in production for sometime.

Can this be done to begin with and is there a document which details the directions? I would really appreciate any help for the same.

Moving the entire commserver folder to another drive will involve a reinstall - you can use DiRT for this but it seems a bit heavy. I'm assumig you need to get the stream files folder and probably the UMR repository over to D - maybe move the log files for Unity and Exchange (is it on box?) off? Maybe move the SQL data files off c and onto d? This is likely a better move for you - you can get details on moving most of this around without a reinstall in the maintenance guide - since you ddn't indicate your version, here's the link to the latest:

That should help you should free up plenty of space on C if that's your goal...

Yes, my goal is to free up plenty of space on C, so as to prevent any future issues with hard drive filling up.

Exchange voicemail is on M: drive, I can move the Exchange log/files to D:/.

How do you move the SQL data files off c to d ?

Also, ain't UMR same as the commserver folder ?

M-drive is a virtual drive (see What is the M: Drive? http://www.swinc.com/resources/exchange/faq_db.asp?status=questions&faqID=1001&faqname=Exchange%202000§ionID=1026§ionName=What%20is%20the%20M:%20Drive?)

You could move the exchange transactional logs to d-drive by opening Exchange System Manager, right-click on the Storage Group, properties, and specifying "Transactional Logs Location"

SQL is a bit more difficult and I would advise against doing that - for one thing, if the nightly and weekly backup jobs are working properly, your UnityDB should be small. Usually the problem is in the UnityDB Transactional logs filling disk space if the jobs are not working.

The UMR folder is by default under commserver\unityMTA but you can move it to d-drive - change the path in HKLM\software\active voice\UnityUMR\1.0\MtaStoragePath

The UnityMTA folder starts filling up if Exchange is not available.

The other folder you can move is the commserver\logs. Open Unity Diagnostic Tools, select "Configure Log Settings". Change the "Location of Log Files" to d-drive.

Lastly you could move pagefile to d-drive. The only caveat here is that you would not be able to get memory dump in case of blue screen but BSOD should be a rare occurance.

I'd probably move the other data over first, but the steps for doing this really aren't that bad if you find yourself still needing to free up more space on C.
