Can anyone tell me if IIS can be reset if it is hung without causing Unity to crash? Has anyone restarted IIS on a working Unity ? ANd if so did it cause the message store to go down.

I actually just had to reset IIS this morning because it was hung up and my SA was unavailable, through a command prompt on the server type IISRESET, this will stop and restart IIS,FTP,SMNP, etc.. It took the server about 3 seconds to restart all the services and everything was fine, we have an external message store so I'm unsure on that one.

If you bounce the IIS Admin service on a Unity server with Exchange on box it'll take everything down (including Exchange which takes Unity with it).
However using IISRESET from the command line wont - I just tried it on an "all in one" 4.0(5) system as a test and it works fine. It chews the CPU pretty good for a minute or two, though.

Jeff ,Thanks, I know that if you do it from the services window have the time it hangs as there is usually a reason as to why you need to reset IIS. It also lists a bunch of dependencies including message store.
I have been using the cmd line for a couple years and this is the first time i seen anythning like this , it actually stopeed the message store, a quick restart and all was okay but still it hurt. SO bottomline is it looks to be okay from cmd line. I will pass that along to my team.
I was trying to find the answer in the Deployment and solutions guide (great book) but no luck..Oh a side note have you considered a Unity Troubleshooting guide like the Callmanager one ?
Thanks again
