Retrieve voice message from inoperable Unity server

Just replaced a failed Unity box. New hardware, software. The old server will not start Unity, but Exchange will start. Is there any way to retrieve a voice message from the old box?

If Exchange starts you can use ExMerge (an MS tool) to fetch messages for mailboxes off onto PST files and import them onto the active Exchange server. It uses the alias name of the subscribers in the PST file names and for finding users on the new Exchange so if the naming convention is the same, this should be pretty easy. If you've changed the naming convention you'll have to do it one at a time using Outlook to slurp in PST files from the ExMerge export onto the appropriate mailboxes on the new installation.

You didn't indicate your Exchange version - if it's 2000 then ExMerge is already on the box - if it's Ex55 then you'll have to fetch it - DiRT installs a version of ExMere if you need it or you can search MSDN for details on its use.

You can use OWA to access the Exchange server and login.

Login as: domain\unitymsgstrsvc

When you change the "alias" it's the subscribers vm box for Unity. You can download the WAV file which is the voicemail.

Jeff said ExMerge works as well. Mass Export one box, or all boxes

Outlook client on a desktop works as well. Copy to PST manually this way.

cheers!
