If you right click on the "distribution agent" in Enterprise Manager on Unity you can setup notifications via pager, email, etc. However, to configure the notifications for e-mail you have to install the Outlook Client on the SQL server.
Is it supported to install Outlook client on Unity?
Is there any way to use EMS on Unity to send out a notification if that Distribution agent (for publication of UnityDB to secondary server) fails?
We are having issues where when Unity fails over, peoples passwords go back to default and they marked for the initial setup again (subscribers that have been configured for more than a week). The agent history shows no failures but it would be nice to know if it does fail.

Outlook installs it's own mapi files. If you are running Exchange on the same server, the answer is a most definate no. In the case of offbox-Exchange, the Exchange Admin tool is installed on the Unity server so Unity can communicate with the exchange server using MAPI so again Outlook mapi files will overwrite Exchange server's. Someone may clarify the offbox-exchange, but onbox-exchange is a definate NO.
If the Dist Agent throws out a message to event logs, you could use the event id to send a message.

Good idea. I enabled the Distribution Agent to send a message to the event log when it fails.
Anyone have any idea what the source would be, and what the Event ID would be when this happens?
