Customer is running 3.1.4 and would like to migrate to new hardware and version 4.0.4.
Is there a supported upgrade path to new hardware?
From the installation guide and upgrade guide, it appears that I have to upgrade the existing box to 4.0.4, build the new box at 4.0.4 then migrate data with Dirt. Or I suppose I could, build the new box at 3.1.4, migrate data with DiRT, then upgrade.
In the past 2.x to 4.x upgrades/new hardware, I used the export and import utilities to move data. Isn't there a similar process for 3.x to 4.x new hardware?

No, if you want to save your data DiRT is the tool to use here and you have to import onto the same version you backed up. You cannot migrate and upgrade at the same time.
Yes, FullDBImport and Export lets you go from 2.x to 3.x/4x but it also didn't get all the info ported over (i.e. you lose your phone passwords and a bunch of other stuff) - and it was also a nightmare to maintain and test.
So - if you want to migrate to a new platform upgrade versions you'll have to do it in two steps.
