We have Unity 4.0(1) and have Exchange 5.5 off box. We now have built an Exchange 2003 in the same site and have moved over 2 users. The 5.5 and the 2003 have an active directory connector; it looks like if I call from an internal phone (4 digit) the 2 users will get their message in the 2003 inbox but no MWI. If I call from the outside (10 digit) the message will never reach the 2003 inbox. They are wanting to migrate users slowly over, so my question is Can Unity some how work with both servers and still have MWI and do you have an idea what is going on with the 10 digit and message not showing up?
Also is there something in 4.0(3) that will help me out if I upgrade Unity to that?

Well, yes - 4.0(3) will help you out in that it's the first version of Unity that will actually support Exchange 2003 - check out the release notes for 4.0(3) here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/prod_release_note09186a00801b92bc.html#387598
If you want to work with 2003 at all (either in mixed or otherwise) you'll need to first upgrade to Unity 4.0(3).

You cant add an Exchange 2003 server into the mix and have everything thing work. Big changes in your Exchange configuration mean big changes in your Unity configuration. Remember that Exchange is the platform that Unity is built on. In the future it is very important to consult the Cisco Unity documentation before making massive changes to Exchange such as deploying a new version. Some of these big Exchange changes cant be undone and can cause Unity to fail.
With that said, 4.0(3) is the only version of Unity that can interoperate with Exchange 2003. You will need to upgrade to 4.0(3) and then reconfigure Unity to work in a mixed Exchange 2003/5.5 configuration. You can review the Reconfiguration and Upgrade Guide here:
