Unity 4.0.3 and Exchange 2k3 front end server

Has anyone gotten Unity to work with a front end server? When I use the message store config tool it requires a message store, and there is not on the front end server. I have back end exchange mail stores but want to point to front end so I can move mailboxes where ever we need to.

From Unity standpoint, the Unity_ account's mailbox is on the partner server mailstore. Without a mailstore, I don't see how it could work.
