Hello,

  • Has anyone performed a successful Upgrade of Unity Connection 8.6 to version 11 using PCD ?
  • Is Unity Connection 8.6.2ES44.22900-44 a supported version for upgrade using PCD ?
  • I have checked PCD supported version and it states as below, does this mean i can only upgrade from 8.6X to 8.6X ?? Please can somebody confirm ?

From 8.6(x) to 8.6(x)
From 8.6(x) to 9.x
From 9.x to 9.x
From 10.0(1) to 10.x

  • Can you conform if the below procedure is applicable to Unity Connection 8.6 to 11 using PCD?
  • Install the below COP files
    • ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn
    • ciscocm.vmware-disk-size-reallocation-1.0.cop.sgn
  • Change the vCPU/vRAM/vDisk/Guest OS version form RHEL5 to RHEL 6 / network Adapter as required by shutting down the VM
  • Install / Configure PCD
  • upload upgrade iso to the PCD upgrade folder via Filezilla
  • Discover old cluster
  • create upgrade task
  • set to manual start and swictch to new version when complete

Thank you for the assistance

Hi,

  • Install the below COP files:
    • ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn > not needed with 8.6.2.24122-1 and higher
    • ciscocm.vmware-disk-size-reallocation-1.0.cop.sgn > only needed if you need to reallocate the disk size. Is this required in your case?

If you have a single node Unity Connection I would recommend you dealing with simple Refresh Upgrade and Change VM settings afterwards. I did it for a two-node CUC cluster from 8.6.2 to 10.5.2 and it was the best approach.

Even if it would work, PCD is worth it when you have to migrate systems (move from physical to virtual) or if you have plenty of nodes/clusters. CUC support seems to be rather limited, hence I kept the old approach and avoided PCD for Unity Connection.

Hello Christoph

Thank you for the response..

I see that 8.6 and 11 version use the same VMware settings for 5000 users, so i do not need the disk reallocation.

I have a two node( PUB and SUB), so using the attached RU upgrade guide I can go from 8.6 to 11 version.

Yes, please follow that guideline and don't forget about the licensing.

If you have already the proper licenses for messaging installed on your CUCM / PLM you can simply connect CUC after successfull upgrade to the license manager.

Hi there,

Just wanted to add a reference to the good notes from Cristoph (+5) Please see the attached bug;

Install/upgrade guide : RU Upgrade on UCXN not supported via PCD
CSCuo77634
Symptom:
Install/upgrade guide : RU Upgrade on UCXN not supported via PCD and only L2 upgrade is supported

Conditions:
RU upgrade on Cisco unity connection is not supported via PCD(Prime Collaboration Deployment).
Only lateral upgrade (L2) is supported via PCD, for example if you are upgrading from Unity Connection 10.0(1) to 10.5(1), PCD is supported with this upgrade.

Workaround:
None

Rob is spot on with that defect [+5], you cannot use PCD for CUC Refresh Upgrade. It had to be the traditional way i.e, either using CLI or OS Administration.

Deepak
