Unity Message Relay

Cisco Unity Connection version: 12.5.1.13900-35

Outlook office 365

I can relay a message to an email address but not an email distribution list. Any idea what would be stopping that?

Here's the fix...

My Outlook Office 365 guy modified the email distribution list group to allow external senders.

Works like a champ now.

I think this thread is relevant to your question:

If you're using SMTP relay, the voicemail is going to be sent using SMTP without authentication. What happens to the e-mail once it leaves Unity Connection is completely out of your control as a UC admin, you'll need to check with Microsoft as they may have some policies that are blocking these e-mails.

From Microsoft's website (Option 2 for unauthenticated SMTP) https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/mail-flow-best-practices/how-to-set-up-a-multifunction-device-or-application-to-send-email-using-microsoft-365-or-office-365

Limitations of direct send

  • Direct send cannot be used to deliver email to external recipients, for example, recipients with Yahoo or Gmail addresses.
  • Your messages will be subject to antispam checks.
  • Sent mail might be disrupted if your IP addresses are blocked by a spam list.
  • Microsoft 365 and Office 365 use throttling policies to protect the performance of the service.
