I currently have a couple of hundred Unified Messaging licenses in use on a Unity 4.0.4 server and need to add some additional ones. Can I buy and install VM Only licenses on the same server and users who get those VM Only licenses will get restricted features (i.e. no Text-To-Speech)?

This is a popular request but unfortunately it is not available. Systems are licensed for either UM or VM and can't be a mix of each.
Thanks,
Keith

Hi Brian -
I know you cannot mix licenses on a Unity server. You would need to purchase a VM-only server with VM only licenses. However, you can simulate a VM only inbox by putting the user in a COS that disables Text-to-speech; hide the inbox from the GAL; and disable the associated user account. In these cases, we have created a separate account/inbox for the user which is used for voice messages only. By hiding it from the global address book, users cannot see it in the directory to send email.

Thanks,
We have a number of users who ask us to "cripple" thier UM accounts, so I was hoping I could save a few bucks --- drat!

Hi Ginger.
I saw this posting from you awhile... do you know if (or anyone) I purchased UM license now, can I use them for VM setup, then later use the license for UM? We plan on using the Unity setup as VM only, then switch to UM later. (Old PBX issues for migration, bandwidth not ready at colo, etc)
Thanks
