Have a customer who is currently running Unity 4.0.3 VM only. Server is set up in a VM domain. This domain also has 2 other Unity servers. Customer wants to replace hardware for 1 unity server.
I would like opinions on an idea to move the subscribers to the new hardware platform.
I would like to set up the new server.
Transfer all FSMO roles to it.
Install Exchange.
Move mailboxes using Exchange move mailbox wizard.
Change current Exchange partner on Unity to the new server.
Dirt backup on old unity server.
Uninstall Unity from old server.
Install Unity on new server.
DIRT restore to new server.
Test.
Remove old server from domain per MS documentation.
Does anyone see any problems with that?
Thanks

This is exactly the way I am going to do this. Did you have luck with this?

There probably is an easier way. How many subscribers are on that Unity box that you are replacing? If there are 200 or less you might consider using DiRT to move the mailboxes. DiRT utilizes mailbox merge also. And also some of the steps that you might want to change the order.
Unity has to be a complete fresh install before you do a restore on it. Refer to ciscounitytool.com video training and help file on DiRT.
