I understand that the VM Plugin is not supported on Citrix but I was hoping that someone might have some insight on an issue that I am having recording a new message using the Phone as the Audio Source. I looked through some of the messages posted on here regarding VM and Citrix but did not find anything specfic to this issue below.
When I try to record a new Voicemail message using ViewMail I
am presented with an error message when I press the record button in VM. The
message states:
An error has occurred! This message will not send voice recordings correctly.
Most likely you have used Crtl+Shift+R to Reply to All, which does not work
properly in some versions of Microsoft Outlook. Please close this message and
create a new one using the Reply to All button.
I am trying to record a new new Message and not trying to reply to an existing
message. We are using Unity 4.04 with Outlook 2003 Installed on a Windows
Server 2003 Terminal Server w/ Citrix.
I can use ViewMail to play messages back to the phones, but it does not seem to
want to record new messages.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,
Here is a very recent thread on VMO support for Citrix:
I mention there that Outlook does not notify VMO of certain events and this is exactly the case I was talking about. VMO throws this error, when it doesn't receive certain event notifications from Outlook. One known case is mentioned in the error message. The other known case is with WTS/Citrix. In the above thread, Jeremy mentions that MS fixed some Outlook issues with WTS/Citrix. You could try the hotfixes he mentions.

But Joe has already mentioned that he's using Outlook 2003, so the hotfixes are not applicable.
I have only tried it with message playback so I cannot comment on the recording option.
Can you do it as an administrator? Could this be a permissions issue on an executable, dll, or the registry that is preventing a user from recording? I would suggest to go down this path first because a playback is simply a READ, whilst a record is a WRITE.
To help you track this, use regmon and filemon from http://www.systeminternals.com. You run these tools from another session, or the console, logged in as an Administrator, and watch what happens when a user tries to record using the VMO.
Cheers,
Jeremy.

I just wanted to add that if this is a permissions problem that is cleared up when giving the user admin rights, regmon and filemon dont always reveal the culprit. Consider enabling auditing for failed privilege use and failed object access and monitor the security log. Enabling failed object auditing also requires enabling auditing at the file and registry level.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Jeremy.

Jeremy,
Thanks for the ideas, unfortunately I am not able to use the record feature even while logged into the Terminal Server as an Administrator. Regmon did reveal that the Registry keys under [HKCU\Software\Active Voice\TeLANophy\Audio\Recording\Phone] were missing.
I went ahead and created these keys based upon values that were set on a Windows XP Workstation that recording is working on. However I am still getting the same error.
At this point I am going to try looking through more of the Registry calls when Outlook Starts to see if it is looking for something ViewMail related that is missing prior to actaully trying to use the record feature.
Again Thanks for your Insight
Joe.
