Guys,
whats the best way to perform an upgrade from 4.0 to 5.0 VM to UM. we currently have UNITY 4.0 VoiceMail only with exchange installed locally. we now want to upgrade to 5.0 in a Unified Messaging Environment.
we obvously would like to retain all the user settings and messages etc.
thanks in advance.

Hi -
The place to check for this is the current Unity Reconfiguration Guide. Note - use this link for moving from voicemail only to unified messaging, which is also applicable to Unity version 4.x - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/42/upgrade/guide/ex/ru_140.html#wp1046626
(one of the hyperlinks in the guide is broken). You will also want to look at the section in the guide that discusses Separating Unity and Exchange - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/42/upgrade/guide/ex/ru_120.html
Either way you handle this, it will require DiRT backup and restore. If it were me, I would separate Unity from Exchange first and get that settled out for a week or so using Unity 4.0, before scheduling the upgrade to Unity 5.X.
