Hi! Expert:
If I add more physical drives to a existing virtual drive group, will the data in the current PDs in the virtual drive group be damaged?

Hi Grace,
No ,it should not.
below steps you can do to expand the size of the Virtual Drive:
1- Reboot the host into webBIOS
2- Select the desired virtual drive.
3- Select "advanced Operations" and hit "go".
4- Add the additional physical drives to the array (do not change the RAID level. It could work, but it's not been tested yet).
5- Let the virtual drive reconstruct (Reconstruction will take time depending on the amount of size you are adding ) .
Thanks-

For the 6Gb controllers with the Webbios utility, the expand instructions can be found at http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/raid/configuration/guide/RAID_GUIDE/MegaRAID.html#80338
I checked this on the 12Gb SAS controller (Cntl + R) that ship with the M4 rack servers,
and the drive group/virtual drive expansion capability doesn't seem to be there for actually adding additional physical drives.
You will need to access the 'AVAGO MegaRAID Configuration Utility' that is launched via the F2 Bios advanced setup screen.
See https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/13133891/expanding-virtual-drive-12gb-sas-controller-adding-additional-physical-drives for the steps to do this on M4 rack servers with the 12Gb SAS raid controllers.
Thanks,
Kirk..

Note: This process requires downtime as you are rebooting the host ,also reconstruction will take good amount of time .
