Hello Community -
How does the Cisco Blade(e.g., 6100) set the Hostname? In the BIOS, the field is set to "unknown", and is not changable.
Within an HP Server, there is the possibility to set hostname via Asset Tagging in the BIOS itself.
IHAC who is looking to do automated deployments of ESX classic with DHCP. Instead of reserving by MAC address of physical NIC of Blade, the scenario requires DHCP assigning IP address based on Hostname.
Any help much appreciated?
Best regards,
Jason Miles

Hey Jason, great to see you on here :-)
We don't set a Hostname value but we do set a UUID which is what other enterprise tools use to uniquely identify that blade - Microsoft System Center and Altiris being examples off the top of my head.

Steve - Good to see you too. I was hoping you'd respond.
I am looking for a way to pass to ESX installer the hostname of a box so that a DHCP query knows what IP to assign.
Make sense?
