Drive failed amber LED - no drive!

I have a UCS C220 SFF server which has only ever had drive bays 1 & 2 populated.

We are now looking to put drives in bays 3-8 but I notice the amber 'drive failed' LED is on for the (empty!) bay 8 (only)

Is this normal? I stress, the empty bays have never contained caddies or drives.

Greetings.

I've seen that happen a couple of times on servers that had back plane issues.

If you have a managed raid controller (LSI 9266, 9271) then there are logs that can be pulled by TAC that can check for issues.  You should probably open a case with TAC.

Thanks,

Kirk...
