Firmware Upgrade

TroyS
Level 1
Level 1

Cisco UCSM running B200 M5's

Today I was performing infrastructure and server firmware upgrades.  My upgrade was going from 4.3(2f) to 4.3(3c).  The infrastructure upgrade was successful.  After creating my new host firmware package and modifying my updating template with the new version, I attempted the server firmware upgrade and it said there was nothing to do.  Sure enough, when checking the installed firmware of the server blades, they all say 4.3(3c).

Is it even a possibility that when upgrading from 2f to 3c that the server firmware doesn't need to be upgraded?  I've always had to perform server upgrades after infrastructure upgrades.

Any help is appreciated.

It's possible that the bundle didn't have any updates for that specific model

If you look at https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/ciscoucsmanager-rb-4-3.html it seems the bios/cimc didn't change on the B200 M5 between those bundle versions.  You could spot check some servers and just make sure the individual components like BIOS/CIMC/VIC/Storage Controller etc are running the versions listed in the release bundle contents.

4.3(2f)

  • ucs-b200-m5-bios.B200M5.4.3.2a.0.0613232340.bin

  • ucs-b200-m5-brdprog.19.0.bin

  • ucs-b200-m5-k9-cimc.5.2.0.230127.bin

4.3(3c)

  • ucs-b200-m5-bios.B200M5.4.3.2a.0.0613232340.bin

  • ucs-b200-m5-brdprog.19.0.bin

  • ucs-b200-m5-k9-cimc.5.2.0.230127.bin
