HX 220c m5

Hi guys.

I'm trying to use a Cisco HX 220c m5 server as a standalone host running esxi.

My challenge is configuring raid 5 as I can't find anywhere either via CIMC or BIOS where I can do this.

I've done this on many UCS servers but this is my first time using a HX hardware.

In CIMC, the area were I usually configure raid on other UCS servers is greyed out with a message saying wipe drive.

Am I missing something here?

Solutions like HX, Vsan, etc, have software solution orchestrating the disk I/O, data parity/HA, etc, in tandem with multiple other nodes working together.

Since raid controllers can actually become a I/O bottleneck, especially with SSDs, traditional raid controllers are not used.

These servers do not make good standalone ESXi servers, as you have no storage redundancy without purchasing a SAS raid controller to replace the SAS HBA.

The PID is UCSC-RAID-M5
