Mapping vHBA to Virtual Machine

Hi guys,

I need to mapping 4 vHBAs to a Virtual Machine (VMWARE) to comunicate with the type library. I have tried to mapping using PCI Devices and it works fine (I saw the flogis in my nexus 5K and the VM is communicating with my tape library) but, I am not able to do vmotion of my VM to another host because the PCI devices are attached to the first host. I could mapping the new devices to the VM on the new host and create a zone on my 5K with the 8 WWPNs, but there is a limitation on VMWARE who I can have just 6 PCI devices.

If I use the nexus 1000v will I solve this problem?

And VM-FEX? I read about that VM-FEX just support Ethernet not FC, it is true?

Regards,

Fábio Henrique

Hi Fabio

Regarding vmotion; I think the vhba's are mapped to the ESXi, not the VM.

Regarding vhba's and VM's, are you talking about raw device mapping.

Yes, VM-FEX applies only to Ethernet.

Walter.
