I have a C220M4 server with Windows and Oracle database installed on local disk. Is it possible to move this server to our new UCS whitout destroying the Windows OS or Oracle database? We only use 2 vNic on no vHBA in the service profile. I dont want to reinstall the server...

Greetings.

Make sure you local disk policy is set to "any config", and protected.

This will make UCSM ignore the local disk config, and leave as is.

I'm not completely sure of your existing conf (already ucsm integrated?)

If you talking about transplanting the drives to another UCS server (C220M4), that is UCSM integrated, you might want to put in stand alone mode, while you import the disks (12Gb raid controller should see the metadata written on drives, and auto import them,,,,keep disks in same slot order).

There are potentially some caveats, but is doable.

The hardware that needs to be the same: storage controller, general chipset & processor type (i.e. intel V3)

MS activation will probably re-trigger when it detects your hardware is someone different (UUID, mac addresses, etc).

Thanks,

Kirk...

I want to move the hole c220 server an plug it in the new Fabric Interconnect(6332-16up). It is ucsm integrated

So local disk policy set to 'any config' will keep your storage the same.

You may need to tweak your OS network config as the new service profiles will present what look like different nics to the OS (i.e. reapply IP address, etc)

Also, if you have heavy network traffic, make sure you check for any oracle or MS recommended adapter policies (i.e. RSS, rx & tx ringsize, various Offloads, ARFS, etc).

Thanks,

Kirk...
