New HX releases V4

Hello Dears ,

We're using (2) FI(s) , 4 nodes AF for VDI , 7 nodes Hybrid for VSI

What we all learned that separate clusters requires different FI(s) , but I was astonished to know that version HX 4.0 (1a) can segregate clusters even it's on the same FI

I don;t know what to choose during HX installer , "Standard cluster-Edge- Stretched" ? How actually I can segregate these clusters VDI-VSI in the new release.

I'm attaching a diagram for your convenience as well.

Hi @Mohamed.Tawfeeq ,

I'm curious about your comment

"but I was astonished to know that version HX 4.0 (1a) can segregate clusters even it's on the same FI"

because I have not seen this option in v4.0(1a).  Where did you read this? I would LOVE to see your reference

So I suspect that the way you achieve what you want to do (have a VSI cluster and a VDI CLuster) is the same as all previous versions, which is (tailored for the design below from your post):

HCI Question.jpg

Step#1: Install the VDI Cluster (Standard install) but with a couple of variations:

  1. Make sure you allocate at least 8 IP addresses for the CIMC (or KVM addresses in the installer)
  2. when slecting the nodes to deploy, choose only nodes 1-3.
  3. When you get to the Advanced Configuration options in the Cluster Configuration Screen, select the [x] Optimize for VDI Only Deployment [See note below]

OptimizeForVDI.jpg

When the cluster is operational and you have saved your configuration from the installer, and then choosen to Start Over, move on to...

StartOver.jpg

Step #2: Install the VSI Cluster. Using the "I know what I'm doing" options of:

[x] Run Hypervisor Configuration
[x] Deploy the HX Software
[x] Create HX Cluster

I Know What Im Doing.jpg

and then continue with a normal install, this time:

  1. selecting nodes 5-8 for the deployment,
  2. use the same VLAN IDs, and the same vCenter Datacenter name, but...
  3. ..use a DIFFERENT vCenter Cluster Name (and a different HX Cluster Name - recommend making the HX CLuster name the same as the vCenter Cluster Name)

Note: I have not had a chance to actually test this, and I have a sneaking suspicion that you may not see the [x] Optimize for VDI Only Deployment option unless you choose the I know what I am doing path and just select all options.

I hope this helps
