I've the following setup,

UCS 6296 Series Fabric Interconnect

UCS C220 M4S with VIC 1227 in MLOM slot

UCSM 3.1(2b)

CIMC version 3.0(3f)

VIC firmware version 4.1(3a)

Can i integrate C220 M4 with UCSM using VIC 1227. I don't have any FEX module.

Please suggest.

Greetings.

Yes, you can directly hook the vic 1227 10Gb connections to the the FIs.

If the C220 has previously been configured as stand-alone server for the CIMC, make sure you do the following:

  • Only connect the 10Gb ports on vic 1227 to the FIs (one port to each FI)
    • Make sure the 1Gb cimc dedicated port, and the 1Gb lom ports do not have any cables connected.
  • During post on server, in F8 (cimc setup), set CIMC to factory defaults
    • This causes CIMC to check for UCSM integration, and should start discovery process in UCSM
  • make sure the ports for the VIC connections on FIs are configured as 'Server' ports.

If this is an unconfigured server, then that  should get you going on getting the Rack server discovered in UCSM.

If it already has been running in stand alone mode, and have pre-existing configurations such as raid controller and local disks, you may need to consider setting your service profile, local disk policy to 'any config', otherwise the USM will try to destructively reconfigure you disks to match what you have chosen in your local disk policy.

Thanks,
