SNMP affect on UCS

Hi all,

I need people's advices about SNMP monitoring of UCS.

I would like to know the behavior of UCS when response to SNMP polling:

1) Given Solarwind monitoring software polling UCS with X seconds interval. How will FI response to that request?
- Option 1: It will immediately queries hardware to return new status
- Option 2: The system status is queries in Y seconds, independent to X, and FI will response with its current status without requerrying hardware.

2) Do you think a 15s polling interval can cause any bad affect to the system?

Thanks.

Greetings.

It depends on how many OIDs/objects you are polling, but every 15 seconds is likely to put a high CPU load on the FIs.  SNMP generally is costly in terms of CPU on most any kind of system, and you generally don't want to poll more than every couple of minutes, unless you are just doing a node up/down kind of poll.

Thanks,

Kirk...

Thank Kirk J for you reply,

Do you have any experience that a monitoring system can have bad effect on UCS? In common case, how long should we set the polling interval?
